Service Learning Overview
One of the highlights of 7th grade is the Service Learning opportunity that each student gets to be a part of. Every year we are trying to make it a better and more authentic experience for students.
our Project: Empty BOwls Dinner Event
Students in the 7th grade will be hosting the 4th annual Empty Bowls Dinner Event this December (specific date coming soon). There will be soups, salad, and dessert available to the community. You can buy a ticket and the money will be donated to local organization that supports people living in poverty and/or hunger. Students will also have awareness booths on stage where you can learn more about their research and our cause. Hope to see you there!

DIRECT SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
In addition to hosting an Empty Bowls Dinner Event, we encourage students to take advantage of one of the following "direct service" opportunities where they will have a chance to get hands-on experience with local organizations whose mission supports our cause.

Service Topics:
This year, students will be creating and carrying out research and project on homelessness, hunger and poverty, both internationally and locally. We have read many different articles in class that highlight issues such as minimum wage, smoking and healthy issues in poverty, and hunger's role in poverty.
Students also read the book Start Something That Matter by Blake Mycoskie (the creator the TOMS shoes company). This book was a great example of how one can start a business (or service project). We used his model to come up with the process listed below, which we will be following this year.
